I am originally from New Jersey and moved to Texas in 1982 after visiting a close friend. I was so impressed with the friendliness and hospitality I experienced, I knew I wanted to put down permanent roots in Dallas.
With a newly minted Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry, and a Bachelors Degree in Biology from Rutgers University, my goal was to establish an independent private practice of Optometry. Thirty years later, I'm still loving the independence of running my own business and enjoy the long term friendships I have cultivated with my patients.
It has been extremely rewarding helping patients from age four to ninety four to see clearly and improve their quality of life with glasses and contact lenses, as well as providing comprehensive eye health exams with the latest technology to detect and co-manage patients with cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetes.
Professionally, I stay involved with my Optometric colleagues with my membership in the American Optometric Association (AOA), the Texas Optometric Association (TOA) and the Dallas County Optometric Society (DCOS). Annually, I attend local, regional, and national continuing education meetings to obtain more than the required sixteen hours necessary to renew my professional license.
Outside of the office, I enjoy all outdoor activities, including mountain biking, snow skiing and yard work. I also have a passion for music, especially Jazz and Blues, and continue to play the saxophone I began at age ten.
You will discover my other passion once in our office. I have on display an extensive collection of vintage eyeglasses, antique eye exam equipment and artifacts from Optometry's past.
I hope you will call our office for your next eye exam and join our family of loyal and extremely happy patients.
Hello! I am a native of Ohio and moved to Texas in 1981. My career in the eyecare profession began over 35 years ago, working at a wholesale optical lab as a job right out of high school, which culminated into becoming a licensed Optician.
I wear many hats in our practice; from Office Manager to Optician, from Frame Stylist to Appointment Secretary and...oh yes...Dr. Tilson's wife for over 20 years. People always ask about our 24/7 relationship and how we do it. We truly enjoy working together as much as we do living together.
My passion is helping our patients select the perfect frame. It is as much an art as it is a science. My unique approach involves getting to know our patient's personality as well as their lifestyle. In doing so, selecting frames becomes a much more enjoyable and fun experience.
Personally, I enjoy my free time by reading all the latest best sellers while being surrounded and smothered by my four needy cats.
Please see us first for your eye care needs. I look forward to meeting you and helping you select the perfect frame for the perfect occasion.
I am a hometown gal, who grew up right here in Irving and graduated from Nimitz high school in 1984.
My career spans over 26 years working in all facets of the eyecare profession, from corporate to independent practices of optometry, to a hospital-based eye clinic and on to a specialty corneal ophthalmological practice.
I have loved it all, but I especially enjoy the hometown feel of my current employment with Dr. Tilson and Karen.
I enjoy assisting patients with their eyewear selection, performing frame repairs, deciphering complicated insurance eyecare benefits and scheduling appointments that accommodate any hectic calendar of events.
My ability to speak Spanish fluently has added a new dimension to our practice. Together with Dr. Tilson's ability to give eye exams in Spanish, we have been able to more effectively communicate with our Spanish-speaking only patients to make them feel welcomed, comfortable and appreciated.
Personally, I love being a wife and a mother to two wonderful children and enjoy taking care of my two Dachshunds. I also look forward to meeting you soon!
